An Ocean3D scan tour is a completely three-dimensional representation of your space. Everyone can walk through and experience your space as if they were actually there.
We position our Matterport(tm) Pro 3D Camera in as many locations throughout your space as required to give an immersive experience on your tour. We use the Matterport(tm) Capture app on our iPad to control the camera and record the images and data. When we press 'Scan' on the app, the camera automatically rotates 360 degrees on the tripod. Each scan position takes about one minute.
For the best results, our scanning technicians need to work with as few people around as possible (mornings are often best for us) however, when they have finished scanning, you will be able to view the rough model before we upload it to the Matterport(tm) servers in California where the magic happens. Once our technician has uploaded the scan, processing begins automatically and typically takes several hours depending on how many scan positions were taken. Once completed, we can then add Mattertags(tm) such as labels and links. The whole process can take as little as one working day but, may take two or more dependent on the size and complexity of the scan and the number of tags required.
Currently, it I not possible to use any editing software such as Photoshop(tm) post scan. If there is anything sensitive or valuable you do not want to be seen on the tour, please ensure it is removed prior to our arrival. The only way to remove anything from a tour once we have carried out our scan is to carry out a complete re-shoot which is chargeable.
On average, it takes about 30 to 45 minutes to scan 1,000 square feet (93 meters squared) so a typical 2,000 square foot (186 meters squared) property can be scanned in about 60 to 90 minutes.
Spaces are currently limited to a maximum of 200 scans. However, we can 'link' very large areas by carrying out two or more separate (chargeable) scans.
For residential or commercial properties, 200 scans are sufficient to build spaces up to approximately 10,000 square feet (930 meters squared). The exact square footage will vary depending on the layout of the property and contents.
You can download an industry-standard OBJ file, which will contain both the 3D mesh and textures. For a sample OBJ file, download this ZIP file of the Golden Gate Park Visitors' Centre.
Yes! All the images we use to create the walk / fly-through tours are available to download from your secure client dashboard. If you would like specific images of part of the building, please ask at the time of editing. Further images can be taken post editing for just £5.00 per image.

Mattertag(tm) posts are a great way to enhance your Spaces by providing additional information right when people need it. With Mattertag(tm) Posts you can anchor a short title and text description to any point in the 3D geometry. Think of them like signs in a museum. They're a great way to highlight key features in your space, home or business. For retail and hospitality customers, these tags can be used to link to ordering forms, POS and menus/ special offers. For digital content creators, the Mattertags(tm) can add context to an immersive storytelling medium.
We use Matterport(tm) 3D Showcase technology which uses WebGL, the modern standard for 3D content on the web. On desktop computers, WebGL is supported by the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer. On mobile devices, WebGL is supported by Safari for iOS and Chrome for Android. To check if your browser supports WebGL, visit the WebGL Test Page.
Embedding a Space is straightforward and similar to embedding a YouTube video. Here is a sample embed code for a Matterport Space:

The system is designed to primarily work indoors and uses infra-red scanning to build its picture and needs vertical reference points to position itself. It can scan outdoors on cool, overcast days but will not work on bright sunny/ hot days. A 360 degree picture can always be taken though. Call us for more information.
Yes! Our tours are perfect for just such a project. They are also ideal for restaurants and bars looking to sell the experience online with links to special offers / menus etc.
Yes! We have already scanned a number of vessels and received very positive feedback. We need a flat-calm day and, ideally, the boat to be moored alongside a pontoon.
What a great idea! We'd be very happy to work with you on that project
